Paracord or 550 paracord, also called parachute rope, is a light nylon rope that was originally used in parachute lines in the USA during World War II. It is now used as a general purpose utility rope by the military and civilians. The braided sheath has a large number of threads for its size which gives it a relatively smooth appearance. The 7 inner strands of the core can be removed and also used when the need for a thinner cord arises.

The US military paracord is specific to the MIL-C-5040H standard. The US military specifications define 6 types of paracord: I, IA, II, IIA, III, IV. Type III is the most commonly used, it has a breaking strength of approximately 550 pounds (249.48 kg), hence its name "550 paracord".

Outside of its original field of use, paracord can be used for making all kinds of braids: bracelets, survival bracelets, key rings, knife handles, straps, shoe laces, belts, necklaces, animal harnesses, etc. It is an aesthetic, resistant, very flexible cord, pleasant to braid, to tie and to untie.

You will find on the internet a number of sites claiming to sell paracord from the USA whereas the paracord offered is in fact only a blade copy, most often made in China. Be vigilant! Quality has a price!

The Paracord that we offer you is a top quality product, manufactured in the USA by a supplier to the US Army and meeting the quality standards mentioned above and in force for this type of product in the USA.
